It was around ten pm on a Wednesday and while we were guaranteed a rainless night, it hadn't ceased raining! Ryan and me were seated talking about the recent football results, at the ready for the 8th job for the day to come in. Eventually we had a call from a woman on a company expedition who had arrived at the Tesco filling garage in St James and filled petrol in her diesel bright red Range Rover Evoque rental car. She was somewhat distressed it seemed, telling me "I can't believe that I have wrecked the car! I am so used to filling my petrol vehicle I completely forgot that I was driving a diesel!" We instructed her to calm down and not to worry, plus that such things often happen. She was able to maneuver the vehicle into a secure space and, as it was only a few minutes off from where we were, we were able to find the customer fairly quickly. The wrong fuel was cleaned up and removed and she could go home to the motel she was lodging in. Even though we got very wet, it was all worth the effort to see her drive away contented and not so anxious. A job in Norfolk well done in my opinion!

If you've unfortunately put the completely wrong fuel in your car and so want a fuel drain you are probably browsing the net hoping for a quick, trusted, competent and a relatively inexpensive wrong fuel removal company in St James or Norfolk. We are the company to help you!

The 3 things you HAVE TO know about petrol in diesel!

Water Contamination or AdBlue Contamination

Fuel contaminated with water, regardless of whether it is unleaded petrol or diesel, is definitely an important matter to deal with in a vehicle - especially in current day common-rail engines.

Having water or AdBlue in your diesel or petrol can certainly produce idling problems, lumpy running, increased smoke and, if it's not dealt with correctly, possibly damaged injectors. Water in petrol is less difficult to drain than water in diesel - this is mostly due to the fact that diesel is an oil. However we are able to take care of both situations very easily.

Bear in mind though that any time the vehicle has been run with the water contamination it will more than likely need a new fuel filter to be fitted simply because the old one is going to be totally wet and unusable.

Motorboat Fuel Drains

If you find you have the wrong fuel, or contaminated fuel (most usually water contaminated or old fuel) in a boat we can certainly help get it out. As long as the boat is either on land, or parked near to a vehicle parking bay we can reach the fuel storage and drain out the fuel. We've performed many fuel drains at marinas and boatyards in the uk.

Wrong Fuel in Car in NR12 Postcode - St James Misfueling

Just had a good night's uninterrupted sleep! 7:00 am on a rainy Tuesday and we were on the way to help an old lovely lady after she had put contaminated fuel in her diesel metallic yellow Volvo C70 in St James. I had been told she had left the petrol station and broken down in a backwater lane en route to pay a visit to her grandchildren. I punched her location straight into the TomTom and got there inside an hour. I reached the car and removed the contaminated fuel in the car vehicle. Whilst I was doing the drain she told me, "I have been becoming quite absent-minded in my senior years and did not remember about the car needing diesel because I'd only bought it a few days ago right after my old car, which I had had for over 25 years, inevitably gave up the ghost". I got the job done and she offered me a Murray mint and thanked me for my work. What a precious Norfolk woman!

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VA receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
